For years, the Maldives existed in my imagination as a place too beautiful to be real. Those turquoise lagoons, swing-worthy hammocks, and over-water villas that look like something pulled straight out of a dream. Earlier this year, that dream finally turned real when I checked into Angsana Velavaru, and honestly, nothing could have prepared me for how magical it felt.
Landing in Paradise
My first glimpse of the island came from above: strips of white sand, shallow neon-blue water, and a tiny cluster of villas floating like little pearls on the ocean. Even from the air, it felt unreal, like someone had painted the colors too vibrantly. After the seaplane landed, a boat awaited and took us to the resort. I could already see the over-water bungalows stretching out over the lagoon. And yes, they’re just as incredible in person as they look in photos.
Staying in an Over-Water Bungalow
This was my first time staying in an over-water bungalow, and it changed the way I think about “hotel rooms.” It wasn’t a room , it was a tiny private island.
- I woke up every morning to the sound of water gently tapping the stilts.
- I laid in bed watching the seaplanes landing, bringing new groups of guests.
- The lagoon was so clear that I could see fish and sea life from my deck.
- Jumping straight into the Indian Ocean became a daily ritual.
There’s a kind of peacefulness you only get when the world around you is nothing but sky and sea.
Island Rhythm
Days moved slowly in the best way possible: snorkeling, chasing colorful fish, afternoon naps with the ocean breeze drifting through the villa, and evenings watching the sun melt into the horizon. The sunsets here are wild—huge glowing skies that turn gold, pink, and then deep purple all in one sweep.
Everything felt simple, calm, and beautifully disconnected from the rest of the world.
What This Trip Meant to Me
This wasn’t just a vacation. It felt like a reset, a reminder that there are still places on Earth untouched by rush and noise… that sometimes the best thing you can do is step away and let the ocean rewire your brain a little.
Starting this blog with my Maldives trip feels right, because this experience was the moment that made me want to document more of my travels and memories.
Here’s to many more adventures — but this one will always be special.
